Blue-Hellfire

Talk about old-school - this little beauty is 100 percent old-fashioned modding. CobraMods designed Blue-Hellfire as one of two computers, the other one going to his wonderful and oh-so-tolerant-of-modding wife. Hers got the (and I quote) "new lipstick and shoes" while his got "all the surgery" to make it look right.

CobraMods started off with the cheap and cheerful Sharkoon Rebel 9 case, a perfect base to start utterly chopping up. A CD sleeve case, lots of water, some drawer pulls and a five quid holesaw or two are just some of the inventive solutions that he's been utilising to create a pretty impressive creation!

Of course, none of that even gets into some of the very inventive dremeling, plexi bending, bondo and other tasks. So let's take a look, shall we?

Oh, the Rebel 9...cheap and simple, and oh so much prettier if we could just destroy that front fascia! It's a good thing that CobraMods had a turbine fan mod in the plans. Who knew that a CD sleeve makes a perfect tunnel for a 120mm fan turbine? The whole front fascia was reconstructed using some plexi and bondo to make the space for it.

Plenty of bondo and a cheap generic rheobus later and the front was starting to really shape up. Note to all married individuals, however - apparently most significant others do not appreciate the smell or the subsequent sanding dust in their sitting rooms. Who'd have thought?

Fans are nice, but they're nicer with proper fan grilles. Of course, the grilles are nicer if they're unique, such as these that were cut out of plexi. CobraMods actually made the front grille into a fully 3D skull. The second one is for the top blowhole, which actually got a mesh treatment behind it that was recycled from an old car air filter.

After several tries at various designs, CobraMods found a flame layout that he liked for the side panel. He knew he found the right one when his wife said "Hmmm, that looks okay, I guess!"

The blue watery paint job was actually created using just that - water. Rather than take up a bunch of space detailing CobraMods' rather slick method, I figure you can take a look and then go read up for yourself in his worklog!

Of course, on your way, if you think that this ripped up Rebel 9 has what it takes, make sure that you stop by in the forums to vote for Blue-Hellfire by CobraMods as June's Mod of the Month!
